Desperado

Day 1 of the Impeachment Trial.

Sa kagustuhan nilang ako ay magresign, wala nang magawa kundi ako’y takutin nang takutin. Ako raw ay hadlang.

Tama, isa akong malaking hadlang.

Chief Justice Renato Corona is big. He himself so admits. And, we can agree with that.

It turns out that he loves big tales, too. And tells them quite convincingly, if you cared to ask those gathered at the Supreme Court (SC) grounds earlier today to support the embattled head of the only non-political branch of Government.

Wait, what non-political branch? Is there any left?

None that I know of, based on recent events.

Back to the big tale.

Right after the celebration of the Holy Mass and right before his crucifixion …err, trial… for greed, Corona fired away at three (3) alleged conspirators that are plotting to remove him from office.

I couldn’t tell if he was high or not (since his eyes and facial expression are eerily the same almost all of the time) but the one thing I can sense is this: he is Desperate. With a capital D.

Yes, desperate enough to conceive big tales in the mold of Dan Brown and, well, Conrado de Quiros. I leave the guessing to you but how can Corona, after saying what he did, still govern his department the way he is supposed to decide cases before him?

That was a rhetorical question, as even a Palace secretary would attest.

In the words of Lead Prosecutor Niel Tupas Jr., Corona “has bartered away for the pot of porridge the effectiveness, independence and honor of the Supreme Court.”

I doubt if it was porridge but I agree that there’s a pot involved. A pot desirable enough to set aside every sense of decorum a Chief Justice should have in exchange for pandering.

Haven’t they had their full yet?

May niluluto pa…
